Nuts & Bolts: Building a Cohesive Community With Meaningful Conversations
How do we empower ourselves to have meaningful conversations about topics that are difficult or make us uneasy? How do we create welcoming, safe spaces where we can show up as our authentic selves and participate in constructive dialogue, communication, and conversation?
In this session, Dr. Karla Manning will provide participants with strategies and ideas for facilitating meaningful, courageous conversations with young people.
Karla will begin the presentation by providing context about why it's important to create space for having meaningful, courageous conversations with ourselves as adults and with the young people we teach. She will then unpack the reasons why it is difficult to have courageous, meaningful conversations about race, diversity, equity, and inclusion in classrooms. And finally, audience members will acquire five “nuts-and-bolts” strategies for facilitating meaningful, courageous conversations.
